27/08/2008 - *** Now Available*** Guide to local rents 2008 Part II: Social Landlord Rents

In keeping with the spirit of the Olympics, users of our data will be pleased to see we have acheived a personal best - Part II Tables and Notes for the Rents Guides are now available for download - earlier than in previous years and ahead of the published schedule! These tables comprise data from the 2007/8 Regulatory Statistical Returns and cover rents and service charges for general needs housing at individual housing association, local authority area, regional, and national levels. Parts I & III and the interactive tables will be uploaded in due course - when the underlying data become available.

18/12/2007 - Housing Associations and the movement to target rents, 2006 to 2007

Each year the Housing Corporation publishes data in the form of a Rent factfile, a paper that compares actual net rents to target rents as at 31 March of two consecutive years. The Rent factfile is produced on behalf of the Housing Corporation by Dataspring. This year's paper compares 31 March 2006 and 31 March 2007 and examines the extent to which actual rents have moved towards target rents. It also describes the annual change in gross rents for the period 1 April 2006 to 31 March 2007. Download here.

20/08/2007 - National Register of Social Housing: Lessons Learned

NROSH imageNROSH is set to replace the Housing Corporation Regulatory Statistical Return as the primary way of collecting regulatory data within the next few years. To date seventy-three housing associations have provided some data via NROSH. This report highlights the lessons learned from the top six. Please click here to download.



19/08/2007 - Martin Cave speaking at the 2nd Annual Cambridge Regulation Conference

Image of Peterhouse Prof. Martin Cave spoke on his review of social housing regulation at a conference at Peterhouse on 12 Sep 2007. The conference, 'The End of Zero Risk Regulation'  was chaired by Paul Sanderson from Dataspring. It addressed the implications of greater toleration of risk in the regulation of housing, health, transport etc. Conference papers can be downloaded here.

16/08/2007 - Response to the Cave Review

The Centre’s response to the Cave Review stressed the fundamental principles of inclusive regulation covering the core activities of the social rented sector it concentrated on the importance of not only putting tenants first, but also insuring sustainability of the ‘industry’ given these two over arching requirements we consider that only a fully independent regulator with responsibility across all providers can operate effectively.

Each year, Dataspring produces a 'Profile of the Housing Association Sector’ on behalf of the Housing Corporation, a report based on stock and rent information provided by HAs in the Regulatory and Statistical Return. Average rents for two bedroom properties, as a proportion of lower quartile earnings, declined during the period 1998/99 - 2004/05, indicating an improvement in affordability. Click here for more information.
