About the Guide to Local Rents

Dataspring produces the Guide to Rents each year for the Tenant Services Authority. It is designed to enable HAs to make use of critical market information in their rent setting policies and business strategies. It is also a valuable source of data for policy makers, local authorities and researchers in understanding the differential between housing costs in different housing tenures and for different property sizes and types. This is important in evaluation the role of the HA sector and in understanding local housing markets.

The Guide to Rents is published in three distinct Parts and is available to download from this website. More importantly, you can manipulate data from parts one and two on our website to focus on that data that is important to your HA, LA or research brief.

Guide to Rents, Parts I, II and III: together these publications provide the data to undertake comparisons of rents geographically for all three rented sectors, between individual HAs and between individual LAs. A summary of the key findings from the data are provided with the data tables.

Part I compares general needs rents across tenures.

Part II compares general needs rents for the RSL sector.

Part III compares supported housing and housing for older people rents.

The Guide to Local Rents also includes information about HA target rents.
